A Human-Centered Approach to Judaism
As a humanist, Jack draws his inspiration from the power and potential of his fellow human beings. He believes that the Jewish people began as a nation of like-minded individuals who related their ideas and experiences through stories which eventually were codified into the Tanakh. The Jewish experience is one of a small group of people who survived against seemingly insurmountable odds because of their shared identity, human values, and ability to adapt to whatever conditions they faced.
Throughout history the Jewish people have contributed to the betterment of all humankind. We have accomplished this through our literature, our dedication to learning and teaching, our codification and practice of ethical principles, and our artistic and scientific discoveries and contributions.
As a secular Jew, Jack is inspired by searching for the underlying meaning and purpose of our life-cycle and celebratory events. Just as it did during more ancient times, he believes that the practice of Judaism continues to grow and develop. Through the philosophy and approach of the Humanistic Jewish movement Jack strives to enrich the live of people who are searching for a pathway to experience and express their Judaism, which differs from the traditional ways. |
